VAAF takes over the container arch
Just a few more days to go until we kick off the festival season. For the annual DGTL festival at NDSM (this year 18-20 April), Stichting NDSM-werf and DGTL jointly commissioned the iconic container arch to be given a new look this year. While the festival ground is coming to life, artist duo VAAF is giving the arch a brand new look. In between painting sessions, the duo took a moment to chat with us about their work and the inspiration behind the design.
VAAF is a duo of two female artists: Jonna and Lotte. Jonna works from Stockholm, Lotte from Groningen, but for DGTL, they’ve reunited in Amsterdam to paint the container arch together. VAAF means paint in the dialect of Groningen. “We design and make big coloured wall paintings, that’s what we do.”
Jonna tells us that a lot of their work has to do with feminism. “We're driven by projects that create real impact”. This year, the duo collaborated with DGTL. “The DGTL 2025 theme is New Horizons. We wanted to reflect that through the container arch, with elements of the sun, vision, the horizon, and looking upward.”
Just a few more days to go. We're kicking off the festival season with an unforgettable edition of DGTL. A few Sunday tickets are still up for grabs, but they’re flying. Don’t miss out.
