The art of light at DGTL
Visuals are a key element of the DGTL experience. We sat down with two visual artists to dive into their craft-what they do at festivals, why the right lighting is essential, and what fuels their passion for it.
Emanuel Nijkerk and Daniel Steenhoff will be in control of the lights at the Modular stage. Daniel highlights the importance of always following the music and syncing the lights suitably. “Some sets are happier and more uplifting and then the visuals will also be more playful and softer. And maybe later in the evening there is a bit rougher, harder and darker set and we can also go a bit rougher with the visuals.”
“This time, we’re working with specialized screens that make it possible to merge the organic visuals with the space so you don’t get flat lights”, Emanuel tells us. When you’re in the middle or at the back you still have the feeling of being really close and inside the stage design which makes it a bit more immersive. Daniel loves his work because you play a key role in shaping the audience’s experience. “When you have a big emotional break, then there’s a new build up. At that point, everyone is excited for what’s coming and they are all staring at the screen. That control you have over the show and crowd is incredible and it’s the biggest adrenaline march.”
We’re beyond excited for the visual art unfolding at the Modular stage during the festival. Final Sunday tickets are now available—grab yours now!
