Sustainability - Energy
Energy
One of the biggest impacts at an average festival is how energy needs are fulfilled. Most of the Dutch festivals are running on polluting diesel generators. Generators are simply the most stable and cheap option, but it causes enormous environmental damage. 2640 grams of CO2emissions are released per liter of diesel burned (Ecoscore, 2021). A festival likeDGTL–where we had already cut back considerably on diesel–consumed 2150 liters of diesel in2019. A large multi-day festival quickly consumes 50,000 liters of diesel per edition (Oxxio,2015).

Existing Grid
The municipality of Amsterdam has invested in the facilities at the NDSM festival site in collaboration with DGTL. By installing more power boxes, we succeeded in gaining access to the existing energy grid everywhere. With this, we were able to supply 1595 kVA in 2019 with the grid compared to the 200 kVA in 2017. Bars, lights, and the food court can easily access the energy network through power sockets.

100% renewable
By making the switch to Greener batteries in combination with the expanding of the NDSM grid, we have solved the energy problem. In 2022, all energy comes from 100% renewable sources. Over 70% is supplied from the existing NDSM-wharf energy grid, which is completely green. In addition, the remaining demand is supplied by Greener batteries, filled with sustainable energy. DGTL Amsterdam 2022 will therefore run entirely on renewable energy from construction to dismantling and during show days.
